Her empathy and kindness shine through in every interaction and she listens intently and responds with genuine concern for her patients.
I would like to nominate Hillary Anderson for the DAISY Award because she is the best example of what a nurse should be.

She is patient and calm- I observe her in every interaction as the “listener” and the voice of reason. If a person were a rainbow, a ray of light, and the calm after the storm, I am certain that person would be Hillary.

She is kind, forgiving, and fair- Hillary finds the good in everyone.  She is willing to give second chances to people who aren’t always kind to her.  She will never care what your name is or who you are related to.  She will never care about your education level or where you were raised.  She provides everyone she encounters with the same care and concern.  She treats people with the same respect on her best days and her worst days.

She is a team player - Hillary is always willing to take the extra time to help a co-worker.  She will share her knowledge and her time to ensure each person on the team is successful.  She is never critical of another’s knowledge deficit and ensures they have an answer to their question before walking away.  She will always lend a helping hand, even when her cup is overflowing.

She has unconditional devotion to her patients - Recently, Hillary was tasked with caring for a very challenging patient.  The patient herself was not a challenge, however being the caregiver in this specific instance was a challenge.  Hillary’s patient was younger than her by several years and had 3 small children.  The patient had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of colon cancer that was metastatic and incurable.  I observed as she spent hours calling doctors and nurses at several different hospitals to make sure she was aware of every new treatment, every new lab value, and every small change. Hillary was an unwavering advocate for her patient and the entire family.  She worked tirelessly to ensure her patient was comfortable in her home, even after she declined hospice support.  She supported and assisted the family in planning a trip to Florida because that was her patient’s dying wish.  The only thing Hillary was obligated to do was collaborate care with the patient’s physician and carry out orders.  The rest is just extra.

Hillary held her head high and arrived at the patient’s home, ready to conquer the day.  She ALWAYS had a smile on her face and brought hope and encouraging words. She never showed weakness or defeat during a visit because she thought it would create doubt in the patient’s eyes. She sought support from her co-workers AFTER her visits; she is one of the most selfless individuals I have ever met.

Hillary is one of the most dedicated and compassionate people I’ve ever met. Giving all of herself to her patients and co-workers.  She is known to look at her coworkers and say how can I make your day better.  Hillary is always going above and beyond to ensure her patient’s comfort and health. Her empathy and kindness shine through in every interaction and she listens intently and responds with genuine concern for her patients. She offers unwavering support and care without any expectations in return. Her commitment to her work is unparalleled, and she consistently pours her heart and soul into providing the best possible care. Thank you for all you do for your patients and co-workers.

Hillary is one of the most dedicated nurses and co-workers that I have ever met.  To work with Hillary is to be part of one of the best teams, and you never feel alone.  Hillary gives her patients not only what they need but what they deserve.  Hillary is not only a nurse to her patients but also a friend and an advocate to the highest degree.  I have seen Hillary go above and beyond for her patients and their families.  Hillary not only cares for her patients when they are under her care, but also their families.  The amount of compassion that Hillary exhibits is nothing short of admirable.  Hillary, as a co-worker, is one of the very best I have ever had.  She is always willing to help, no matter the task or situation.  Hillary is willing to see patients that are not hers if that is what needs to be done.  She has helped me make care plans, visit plans, and figure out how to coordinate care when I was not sure.  She is always a good resource to use and is a wonderful asset not only to our department, but the hospital as a whole.  My only hope is that one day, I can be half the nurse that Hillary is.
