While working at the front desk, a person came in requesting information about an adult daughter who was exhibiting some mental health issues. I called our adult unit requesting someone to come and speak with this individual. Ingrid came down and spent time actively listening to this mother. After listening to this lady and informing her about options for her daughter, Ingrid slowly and patiently introduced opportunities for this heartbroken and frustrated mom to care for herself. This nurse, through her active listening skills, was able to give this mother the facts and tools to use on her adult child but, more importantly, redirect the focus on the real issue, which was the mother’s need to seek coping skills she needed to care for herself. Great job of interpretation, and self worth. This mom left with a smile and a heart filled. Thank you to this nurse (even requested a hug). Great to see such a dedicated professional in action.
