My brother-in-law, J, was admitted to the hospital and passed away a month later. He spent a good deal of his hospital stay in the ICU. The staff in the ICU, including the doctors, nurses, and everyone we had contact with, displayed compassion and care for both J and his family and demonstrated the utmost professionalism. Whenever we came to see him, he was clean and made as comfortable as possible. The staff always made us feel that they cared about us as well as J by answering all our questions and allowing us to call after hours to get updates on J’s condition.

In particular, we received a call back from one of the nurses, Allison, who had accompanied J to a long-awaited MRI. Allison called way after her shift had officially ended and not only did she give us the update, but she also had the test results certainly, above and beyond what we expected.

On the day that J passed, the assigned nurse, Nicole, spent time making sure that J was comfortable (re-positioning, suctioning, and administering pain medication as needed). She also attended to our needs by providing a comfort cart and assisting multiple visitors who came to see J on that day (chairs, kind words, and a quiet, peaceful demeanor that helped during this unbearable situation).

For these reasons and the overall kindness and skill demonstrated by all the staff, we would like to nominate them for The DAISY Team Award.
