"I don't hesitate to pull up a chair, take my time, and explain to patients line by line, dot by dot, what their instructions mean," he said. Patients commend his compassion, commitment and thorough explanations, which give them extra assurance that they are receiving the finest care. His colleagues appreciate the support he offers to new nurses, helping them to "feel comfortable with their skills" and become part of the team. His reward for exemplary dedication? "What I like best is the smile on a patient's face on the day of discharge. That goes straight to my heart. It is why I am so attached to bedside nursing."
