Jackie Brown, our wound and diabetes nurse, took care of a patient whose daughter wrote the following regarding Jackie Brown:
Jackie was outstanding in her care of my father. Dad had a colostomy for 30+ years and had been hospitalized after developing a fistula in the lower bowel. After the surgery to repair the fistula, a wound vac was utilized to assist in closing the fistula and draining away the infection. This leaked badly for four days.
Jackie came back to the hospital after her shift and on her days off to try and stop the leak. She continued to seek alternative systems of equipment and even customized tubing, pouches and seals, always thinking out of the box to help my Dad.
She listened to our suggestions and was open to our input. She spent a great deal of time with us to explain and diagram what the problem was and why.
Jackie was very compassionate and matter of fact about treating and working with a very unpleasant situation.
She is a very deserving of the DAISY Award and a valuable asset to your hospital.
