Jacqueline Schmitz, RN

Jacqueline Schmitz was my dad’s primary nurse for his recent admission. I witnessed her immediately establish a connection with her quick smile, professional confidence, active listening skills, and sincere concern for his medical and emotional wellbeing. Subsequently, my dad experienced several episodes of hospital delirium causing him great distress. Because of the initial trust Jacqueline created, he was able to receive, process, and accept her explanation as to the reason why he was having these episodes. She continued to have conversations with him about the delirium and offered reassurance whenever he expressed a desire to discuss it more. Their discussions allowed my dad to feel safe enough to share his understanding of hospital delirium with us when we visited him, to the point where he started joking about them. It was Jac’s holistic nursing care that was so crucial to his successful recovery, physically as well as cognitively. Jacqueline exemplifies all the attributes of a truly caring RN, as an individual, role model, and member of his healthcare team.
