Jacqueline Zepeda is always a great nurse but, she has gone above and beyond for an ICU patient. The patient was Catholic and Spanish-speaking only. When she cared for the patient, he was Aoxy and very scared to be in the ICU. She kept talking to him and explaining his care and prayed the rosary with him in Spanish. Jackie stayed after her shift to continue to advocate for the patient, and due to weather conditions, she slept at the hospital. When she woke up, before she headed home, she stopped by the patient’s room, which she had grown close to, to say goodbye. When she learned the patient was to be intubated, she called 3 different Catholic churches to find a Spanish-speaking priest to deliver last rights. Jackie went above and beyond for this patient and his family during his critical illness. The ICU is lucky to have a nurse like Jackie!
