Professor White is an amazing role model, coach, and nurse. He is the epitome of nursing. He is caring and kind with his patients and can talk to them, make them laugh, and make them feel so comfortable in a very uncomfortable environment. I strive to be half as amazing of a nurse as Professor White.
Professor White is such an inspiration to the nursing profession. He's always available to his students. He's always pushing, inspiring, motivating, and encouraging us to do better and be better. His level of understanding, his ability to recognize each student at his level of confidence, and his ability to meet that need are precisely what makes him a great candidate for this award. His knowledge of nursing as a profession and life lessons has equipped him to be one of the best professors on campus. The respect and collaboration he has for other faculty members and students are remarkable to see. You can always count on Professor White to put the teaching content and our anxiety in a place of comfort. The first semester, he shared a mantra with us, which has stuck with me. He says, “Each of you comes into this program full of butterflies;
the objective is to learn and grow and make those butterflies eventually fly straight.” It was at that moment I knew I transferred to the right program. I can go on and on about his impact on my nursing journey so far.
Professor white always gives his students his all. He is never unavailable for someone in need. He makes you feel like he really wants to see you succeed and go far. He goes the extra mile in making sure that we fully understand the difficult topics in nursing. He is so personable and caring and an easy person to go to with difficult matters. Professor White has single-handedly made a huge difference in the quality of my nursing education!
Professor White is just really fun to be around, but he also encourages all of his students to be the best they can be. He is able to make students feel comfortable even though they are being graded. For example, during our clinical rotation on 5HH last semester, I had the opportunity to complete a lab draw which, as a student, I am very aware that not only do I not want to hurt a patient, but I also don't want to do something wrong in front of my professor. Professor White asked me to walk him through the procedure, allowed me to gather the supplies, and came into the room with me so that I could do the lab draw. Not once did I feel like I was being graded and the patient was so comfortable talking to Professor White that she didn't even notice I was taking her blood. Not only can he put a nervous student at ease, but he can calm a nervous patient.

I strive to be half as amazing of a nurse as Professor White. He is encouraging, pushes people past their insecurities as a teacher, and helps you understand each task and why you should do it. If he teaches the next generations of nurses I will be proud knowing so many patients will be in good hands just because of his extension of knowledge. He deserves this more than anyone and I’m so thankful our healthcare team has an employee so devoted to patients and nursing.
