Jamie showed extraordinary teamwork, strength, and advocacy while at her 2 West clinical. Jamie took the time to research her patient before stepping onto the floor so that she was prepared for the day. Once we got on the floor, she participated in the change of shift report, giving her even more knowledge regarding her patient. Jamie began immediately caring for her patient, getting vitals, completing her assessment, and administering morning medications. She knew once she took her patient's blood sugar that something was not right. She notified both the primary RN and her instructor of a critical low. Shortly after, due to the patient's complex medical history, pre-existing conditions, and current medical state, the patient began to code. Jamie immediately jumped into action. She remained poised while initiating compressions and was involved in the interdisciplinary teamwork that happens between nursing staff, respiratory therapy, and doctors. She remained focused throughout the code, helping when appropriate, and remained with the code team through the debrief. She then participated in a debrief with her peers, during which she remained respectful and thoughtful when explaining the events that took place. Jamie demonstrated her commitment to holistic nursing by caring for this patient from the start of her shift through the completion of post-mortem care. She was thoughtful and compassionate, continuing to check in with the nurse regarding this patient's care, notification of the family, and next steps to take. She thought of the patient as a whole. In the time that she took care of her patient she took the time to ask not only about their medical needs but about their work history, family, and hobbies. She represented herself, her peers, and the UMA nursing program in a positive light and is a true DAISY Nurse.
