As a family member, I felt comfortable leaving because I knew Jamuna would take care of everything and advocate for my dad.
Jamuna is a shining star. We feel fortunate that she was our nurse. My dad was admitted with bleeding after a biopsy. He has chronic conditions and is traumatized from past hospitalizations. He has a home routine that doesn’t translate well into hospital protocol. On top of that, we were all severely anxious. That didn’t phase Jamuna. She diligently incorporated my dad’s home routine into the hospital. She reassured us. She repeatedly reached out to the doctors and communicated the plan to us. Every time she spoke to us, it lightened our stress and fears.

What sets her apart is her critical thinking and compassion. While spending several days monitoring my dad’s blood levels, she recognized he may need further intervention based on her clinical assessment. She repeatedly messaged the doctor. She provided her expert assessment and helped us obtain an IR consult. While waiting for CT test results, she had the intuition to rush into the room and pause the tube feedings because she had a hunch. She was right, and my dad had a significant hepatic artery bleed requiring intervention. The next question? Has he been NPO? Yes. My dad received intervention that same night and was discharged the next day. This may seem like such a small detail, but it’s the culmination of all these small details: calling to ensure labs are obtained on time, contacting transport to arrive on time, and adjusting insult… that impacted my dad’s entire stay. As a family member, I felt comfortable leaving because I knew Jamuna would take care of everything and advocate for my dad.
