Jan clearly demonstrates all of the above qualities. She is a sensitive caregiver who individualizes patient care. She has many years experience as a pediatric intensive care unit nurse and therefore is an expert clinician on our service. She anticipates patient needs. I can recall her coming in one weekend when she was not on call to bring a patient a support garment she had personally purchased for a patient. (by an MD)Jan is always here for any of our patients. If we finish a case at midnight, she waits so she can keep families updated/calm. This is invaluable to the family as it is scary for them when a loved one, usually a child, is in surgery. One great example of dedication is when we had an overweight patient in need of a support bra after a heart operation. The hospital stock was out. She went to a sporting goods store (on a weekend) bought the item and came in to give it to the patient. She refused to be paid back. (by an MD)
