Jane, my lung nurse, consistently goes the extra mile, demonstrating unwavering support.
As a lung cancer patient under palliative care for over a year, I prioritize a comprehensive understanding of my diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, and effective communication with clinicians. Given my background as a healthcare researcher, this inclination towards knowledge is essential, especially since relocating to the UK for only three years and the COVID lockdown left me unfamiliar with the healthcare system and cultural nuances.

Jane, my lung nurse, consistently goes the extra mile, demonstrating unwavering support. Her responsiveness to my voice messages within a few hours reflects her dedication to addressing my concerns and uncertainties promptly. Beyond emotional support, she provided invaluable resources and guidance throughout various stages of my medical journey. During the pre-surgery period, Jane ensured my emotional readiness and equipped me with essential information for surgeries. During the post-surgery period, her assistance extended to practical matters, including advising on suitable care products and guiding me to appropriate sources/departments/people.

In the face of side effects from medication (e.g., Osimertinib) during palliative care, Jane's expertise became evident as she shared insights on normal/abnormal symptoms and coping strategies. Despite limited in-person meetings, Jane's compassion and commitment shine through every phone call, creating a sense of ease under her care. She read my clinical notes and her meticulous handwriting notes, capturing my concerns, which not only reflected her dedication but also satisfied my thirst for understanding. I am nominating her for the DAISY Award to acknowledge her exceptional contributions that have profoundly impacted my well-being.
