She exceeded her role as my mentor and acted more as a second mother. This is why, in practice, she makes an excellent nurse as she has patients’ best interests at heart and will do anything within her power to help someone.
I am emailing you regarding my placement experience.
Overall, this is an exceptional ward with amazing quality of care. Staff work cohesively with each other and maintain professionalism and respect for all patients regardless of age, ethnicity, sex, and beliefs.

I would like to highlight a particular staff member: She is the most supporting and caring mentor I have ever come across and made my experience as a third-year student nurse very enjoyable.

She supported me in every way possible during my training, helped me exceed, and pushed me to reach my potential. She is a very fair person, and she gave me critical feedback when needed, equally appraised me, and pushed my confidence.

During my placement, I developed a brain tumour and needed emergency surgery.

When I explained this to Jane, she was extremely understanding and empathetic. I could feel and see it within her body language. Up until my surgery date, we engaged in multiple meaningful conversations, which will never be forgotten as this is what gave me strength and hope.

Jane helped me where she could. She acted as my backbone and made multiple phone calls on my behalf to various staff, including my university, to get as much help for me as possible. This also included medical consultations.

During my hospital stay/ recovery, Jane stayed in contact with me and called me every single day without failure! I have never experienced such kindness.

Everyone deserves a Jane. She exceeded her role as my mentor and acted more as a second mother. This is why, in practice, she makes an excellent nurse as she has patients’ best interests at heart and will do anything within her power to help someone.

On my return, she welcomed me with loving arms. She made slight adjustments for me to make sure I was comfortable and not overwhelmed by the ward routine. Even though I was very eager to continue as normal, she insisted, I take one step at a time, and I would get there. Jane continued teaching me to the best of her abilities. I have now passed this placement and passed all modules at university, and I am currently awaiting my NMC PIN. I could not have done that without her.

Jane is an amazing tutor with plenty of experience. Although she is the Band 7, she upholds her role as a nurse and is more than happy to help anyone do anything. She has never once denied anyone any help. This hasn't gone unnoticed, as some nurses begin climbing the hierarchy ladder and forget basic cares and forget the wellbeing of their staff & patients.

Completing my placement here has been a delight, the ward environment is lovely, and it is a wonderful team led by Sister Jane.

Everyone deserves a mentor/ nurse and friend like Jane. She is extraordinary and a true DAISY Nurse.
