Janice has been a trusted and inspirational leader at UWMC for many years. She has mentored nurses over their careers and led more quality improvement projects than we can count! Over the years, Janice has stepped up to different challenges in our nursing team and has always been hard-working, collaborative and dedicated to doing the right thing. Janice herself has been an amazing champion for DAISY, leading our program since its inception. Her passion for recognizing nurses has never wavered. Janice is an amazing nurse leader!

My first interactions with Janice were when she was the night shift Nursing Supervisor and I was a young, fledgling ICU charge nurse. Even though she was just a few years more experienced than I was, she demonstrated leadership traits that I was driven to emulate including authenticity, approachability, honesty, willingness to listen, and support. She also demonstrated a high degree of competence at her job. Later, when Janice became a nurse manager, she often did more than just run her unit. She constantly “gave” her time and talents to projects that needed support such as Nurses Week recognition activities and the DAISY Award process. During another time of transition, Janice also took on leadership and developed the Patient Flow supervisor team. This was in addition to her work as the 4NE manager. Janice’s commitment to patient care excellence and UWMC leadership has been a constant for many, many years. She has been a humble servant, never seeking the spotlight, and is most deserving of The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
