October 2023 Honoree
Javier Magallanes, RN
My Uncle B went into septic shock. While inpatient on the Step Down unit on the 7th floor when the night nurse came on shift they were unable to obtain a blood pressure. He was subsequently transferred back to the ICU. His assigned nurse that night was Javier. Javier was able to maintain a professional, friendly, and jovial bedside manner while skillfully providing him with the care needed to include starting an arterial line, placement of an IJ CVC, and maintaining his blood pressure on 3 agents.
My uncle’s medical care needs this evening were numerous and critical. Javier did not waiver under the pressure of providing exceptional care, explaining what was going on to my uncle and his loved ones, and maintaining an impeccable bedside manner that the Barnes family would be proud of. I believe, that if it wasn’t for the skill and exceptional medical care that my uncle received that evening, his night could have had an entirely different outcome. He is now off the pressors and making small progress in the right direction.

Thank you, Javier, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
