We are nominating Jenn Blush, RN, IBCLC, for the DAISY Award to recognize the exceptional care she provided us as a lactation consultant. As first-time parents, we were initially apprehensive about beginning our breastfeeding journey and finding a lactation consultant who would support our breastfeeding goals. As a two-mom family, it was important for both of us to be actively involved in our child’s breastfeeding experience. During our prenatal lactation consultation with Jenn, she immediately eased our concerns. She listened to our goals, remained open-minded, and explored different approaches to ensure that the non-bio mom could participate in the experience. Jenn prepared us for the early stages of breastfeeding in the hospital, providing us with the tools we needed in case our baby required supplementation (which she did). Her guidance truly set us up for success. When our daughter was born at 36 weeks, Jenn helped us navigate the challenges of feeding and weight gain, all while supporting two new, anxious moms. Jenn exceeded our expectations, ensuring that both of us were involved in our daughter’s breastfeeding journey, ultimately supporting us in breastfeeding for over a year. Her dedication to helping parents achieve their individual breastfeeding goals is evident through her calm, supportive demeanor during moments of anxiety and stress. Additionally, our experience reflects her strong commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. We are extremely grateful for Jenn's thoughtful support, guidance, and encouragement.
