A patient whom Jennifer cared for in PACU was mentally handicap. She quickly identified the patient's disability and established a connection with her and her mother. She thoroughly explained what she was doing before she did it and did so on a level that the patient could understand. The patient was obviously very anxious, but Jennifer completely alleviated her fears with her kindness, caring, and patience. Due to her extraordinary clinical skills, Jennifer was able to talk the patient through the IV insertion on the first attempt. Vital signs were obtained with ease and the patient was comfortable during the procedures. Jennifer demonstrated a very professional attitude while helping her have a positive and worry-free experience. I think the patient was even having a little fun with Jennifer talking about her animals. Jennifer gave excellent care while also caring for two other patients and monitoring me for orientation to the unit. She displays all the qualities of an IU Nurse and is the kind of person I want to work beside.
