Jennifer ultimately ended up going to the associate’s house, during the snowstorm, and watched their son so dad could go to the hospital to see his daughter again and take his wife needed items.
Late last year one of our associates in the ED brought their child in for a febrile seizure that lasted a long time and ended with her being intubated and admitted to PICU. During this very difficult time for our associate, our Clinical Director Jennifer Winfield was by her side.

After transferring to the PICU, Jennifer’s dedication to this family did not stop. Jennifer lives near them and offered to bring back essentials in the morning when she returned to work. Jennifer ultimately ended up going to the associate’s house, during the snowstorm, and watched their son so dad could go to the hospital to see his daughter again and take his wife needed items. I feel it goes without saying that she continued to check on them during their time in the hospital. Jennifer has such a huge heart and definitely went above and beyond for this family.

I am so thankful and grateful to work with such an amazing person! She truly demonstrates the shadow of a leader. I’m also including what our associate/mother of the patient had to say about her experience:

"Thursday, December X will forever be marked as the worst day of my life. My child had a febrile seizure that lasted 20-25 minutes that severely affected her breathing. All of the training and experience in the world can never prepare you as a mother for this happening to your own child. I have never been so afraid in my life and I felt completely incompetent in my ability to help her. It was the longest most distressing ride to Le Bonheur I have endured, praying the whole time for her to please keep breathing. When the doctors opened those doors to the back of the ambulance I have never been so thankful in my life to see their faces! I was HOME, in the one place I knew without any doubt could help my baby save her life. The emotions I felt are truly indescribable, a wave of comfort came over me and I could finally let out the tears I had been fighting to hold in.

When we got into R1 the extensive outpour of love felt from all there was positively extraordinary! The care my child received was impeccable, perfectly precise, and swift beyond measure from ALL. You SAVED her life, MY baby’s life, and for that, NO words could EVER describe how grateful I am. You are not my coworkers, you are my Family, my Le Bonheur Family! I couldn’t be prouder of you than I am today! My son asked me, “momma did you put that heart on top of the building?” I said no, I didn’t; that heart was put up there by all of us who work here! It is made up of little pieces of all our hearts, to make one big heart! We are Le Bonheur ED Strong! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! I must give a Special Thank you to Jennifer Winfield, who in the middle of the snowstorm came to my house to stay with my son while my husband brought stuff to the hospital for me. I’m so thankful for you and your special friendship."
