Jen is the truest example of what a DAISY Honoree should be. She is one of those people you value and enjoy working with because she possesses all the qualities a DAISY Nurse should have. Although her role is in management, she is always aware of what's needed in the clinical setting as well. She shows true compassion and concern for the staff when they become overwhelmed. She will step into any role where she might be needed without hesitation. She will take the charge role to allow the designated charge to take on a full assignment without the pressure of having to complete all the charge responsibilities that are required. She has taken new admissions when nobody else was available except the charge nurse, so that they could fulfill their duties during a super hectic day, even with the charge nurse's resistance. It is always about what is best for the entire department, the staff, and most importantly the patients. She will do whatever she can to assure the best patient care. One day Jen took on an assignment which was supposed to be for four hours until more staff could come in. Throughout the day there were call offs and admissions and Jen was concerned about the staff being stretched too thin. Rather than go home and leave it on us, her four hour shift turned into sixteen hours. She stayed with the assignment until the staffing allowed for safe patient care without putting the extra workload onto us.

Jen makes herself present during emergent situations, doing all she can to provide care for the patient. She also displays the greatest care and compassion to the families during these most difficult times. The families are always so appreciative of her. She knows just the right time to give a hug or say just the right words to help them accept whatever they are dealing with, eve with the loss of a loved one.

Jen offers and open door policy and is always willing to lend an ear. We are confident that the conversations will be kept confidential with personal matters and she will offer great advice to resolve an issue. She is very approachable and makes the staff feel comfortable speaking to her. Although Jen is kind, caring and compassionate, she will be firm but fair when necessary. If she feels you're wrong, she will not hesitate to say so, but does it in a way that you can accept the constructive criticism and turn it into a positive experience. She has good intuition on how to handle situations with staff as individuals. She understands what strategies offer the best outcomes. She always encourages us to be the best we can be. She will gently direct us in a manner that does not come across as pushy, but rather makes you feel she's in your corner and she has your back.

Jen is kind, caring, compassionate, and trustworthy and possesses integrity and respect. She does this with a genuine smile on her face and truly cares about others. She is an awesome bedside nurse and can handle any situation with total empathy, but she is even more exceptional as a leader. No one deserves the DAISY Award more than her. She always lets us know that she values us; allow us to show her the same. We want her to know how important she is to us and to the entire hospital. We are all so fortunate to have her.
