She always brought kindness, empathy, and good humor to my bedside and she knew her stuff!
I am a 68 year-old heart attack survivor. I credit God and an ICU Nurse named Jesse for saving my life and keeping me alive. I suffered a massive heart attack in December of 2021. I flat-lined and they had to shock me several times to bring me back. I spent the next 30 days in the hospital, 20 of them in ICU. I was on a heart/lung machine, balloon pump, meds, you name it, just to keep me alive while the docs debated the best course of action. Jesse was the one constant during a very hectic time. Her care, compassion, and competence were on display every day. She was always patient and kind. What makes that even more remarkable is that this was during the COVID crisis. The hospital nursing staff was stretched thin. Everyone was stressed out and pushed to the limit! Jesse was working 12 hours on 12 hours off, what felt like every day. She had to be exhausted but it never showed. She always brought kindness, empathy, and good humor to my bedside and she knew her stuff! She patiently talked to me about ongoing treatment, meds, etc. We talked about everything or nothing at all. Turns out she was from Northern Maine and grew up on one of my favorite fly-fishing rivers. Her folks run a fishing camp on that river where I have stayed. Small world indeed. The first call I made after being discharged was to Jesse's folks to sing her praises and to thank them for raising such an amazing daughter. I could go on but I think you will agree Jesse is a DAISY! I am fully recovered now. I traveled to Labrador with my son and walked my daughter down the aisle. Happy to be alive!
