I found this very comforting, empowering, and I can say with full confidence that Jessie eased my anxiety tremendously.
I came to UCH to be induced after learning I had gestational hypertension at 35 weeks pregnant. To say that my husband and I were nervous about the birth of our son is quite an understatement. In June 2019 I suffered from a ruptured brain aneurysm. I was in grave condition and almost didn’t survive. Thanks to the AMAZING neurosurgery team at UCHealth, I survived! After my aneurysm and brain surgery, I wasn’t sure that I would ever be able to have another child. Thankfully in June of 2020, I had an angiogram that came back perfect! And from the moment we learned I was pregnant, my husband and I were very anxious. Given the global pandemic and the nature of my high-risk pregnancy we knew we were in for a long 9 months.

The night we came in for the induction I was a nervous wreck. I was anxious about the birth and worried that my blood pressure would be unmanageable from the pain of the contractions. Luckily that all changed when we met our nurse, Jessie Vold! Jessie met us at the nurse’s station and took us to the room where I would deliver. She listened to my concerns about my blood pressure and carefully reviewed my medical history with me ensuring that everyone on my care team was on the same page. We discussed pain management options and she ensured that I was comfortable with every step of the induction process. She always gave me choices and options – I never felt like I “had to” do anything rather I could choose how I wanted the birth of my son to go. I found this very comforting, empowering, and I can say with full confidence that Jessie eased my anxiety tremendously. Throughout the night Jessie constantly checked on both me and my husband. Her intelligence and calm personality shined through from start to finish and I am so grateful that she took the time to listen and care for our needs. Right at shift change I hit 10cm and was ready to deliver my son. After she gave report to the day shift nurse Jessie came back to my room to check on me and gave moral support when it came time to deliver. She stayed when she didn’t have to and was my cheerleader along with my husband. I can’t thank her enough for her extraordinary care!
