Jessie walked over and said, “Let me know if you need anything, we’re going to get you feeling better.” The way she said it was not just a “feel good” comment. She truly meant it and it gave me confidence.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciated nurse Jessie to have been caring for me the past few days. I was admitted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital for chest pain and trouble breathing. It was also found I had issues with my type 2 diabetes. The moment I met Jessie when coming on at shift change, I knew there was something special about this nurse. She knows her job and is a professional! After being introduced by the previous shift nurse and prior to leaving, Jessie walked over and said, “Let me know if you need anything, we’re going to get you feeling better.” The way she said it was not just a “feel good” comment. She truly meant it and it gave me confidence. Soon she returned and took the time to ask what brought me into the hospital how do I currently feel and goals to feeling better during her shift. She is truly invested in the care. Jessie confirmed I was comfortable enough then assisted with ordering breakfast taking the time to explain the Diabetic/Cardiac menu and carb count. Jessie continued her very detailed care by explaining very clearly what the care plan was along with the meds and expectations of each. The most impressive was her knowledge of so many medical topics. I’m not referring to the norm but her in-depth knowledge of so much more. As well when she basically “checked in” with me on a quasi psychological aspect of any concerns I may have about upcoming procedures. She talked through everything, reassuring my confidence once again. She is always one step ahead of me. She always knew when I needed something or assistance. Because of her regular check-ins to see how I was, I never hit a call button! I don’t know how she maintains that pace. She worked from the beginning straight through the worst of Covid, somehow maintaining her mental health and sanity. Now she continues to provide a standard of care that is beyond reproach. There is a good nurse who does her job well, then there is Jessie who goes above and beyond physically as well as mentally to provide a level of care that exceeds even her own expectations of herself. A standard I imagine most would not be capable of performing at. Jessie should be recognized for her past, her present, and what I guarantee is a future of patients being overwhelmed and impressed by her standard of care! Thank you Jessie for such hard work and pride in what you do!
