Jesus is like Pandora’s box; you will find knowledge, integrity, compassion, fairness, and an enthusiastic sense of humor once you open it.
I have been working with Jesus Mendoza for 11 years—the last seven years as a nurse. Every time I know Jesus is the charge nurse, I know that will be a great shift. If I have a question regarding one of my patients or need help with my team, he will be there for me no matter what.
The experience and knowledge that Jesus possesses is astronomical. No matter how simple or complex the question is, he always has an answer; if he does not, he will return to you and give you the answer later. Jesus can patiently explain to anyone how and why something is done. Sometimes, I have to remind him to cut it short because I do not have all day to listen to all the tiny details! He simply smiles and continues with his long lecture. Jesus is never stressed, never in a rush, never short, and never complains, even if he performs two roles simultaneously. All he says is, "We can do it; we can do it." with a smile on his face. He even jokes about being so busy!
When a nurse is having a hard time with a difficult patient, Jesus goes and talks to them in such a caring, knowledgeable, and understanding way that all you can hear coming from that room is laughter.
Jesus does not wait for you to ask for help; he knows when someone is struggling with their patients. "I'll do it. I'll give him something for the pain. I'll go and talk to him; I know he is very demanding." There was a time when he said, "I'll take care of this patient while you take care of the rest, and if for some reason I cannot do it, I will let you know."
Jesus is a very fair charge nurse. He respects and treats everybody the same, no matter the circumstances. Jesus goes above and beyond in everything that he does. His dedication and enthusiasm for his job, the hospital, the nurses, and the rest of the staff have earned my respect for him as a charge nurse and as a person.
