The last question always asked of prospective employees when interviewing with us is: Of our 4 mission tenets – Reverence-Integrity-Compassion-Excellence, which one best describes you? Some of us perhaps have one or maybe two but have to work hard and deliberately sometimes to model all 4. When describing our first DAISY Award honoree – without question all 4 words come to mind. She has reverence for individuals and the mission, she has integrity by being honest and forthright in her interactions – she has compassion by exhibiting her caring and empathy for patients, families and co-workers and she has excellence by setting expectations and standards of performance to propel the quality of our care forward. Jill Zintz is a natural leader and mentor who have worked for Mercy since 1984. She has a gift to make every patient/ every day feel like the most important person in the world. She is outgoing, loving, friendly and warm but she is a highly competent clinical nurse who intuitively senses a problem and corrects it. She sets the bar high for those she leads but she will never ask someone to do something she won’t readily do herself. Jill has worked tirelessly to improve patient satisfaction and she is always on the lookout for ways to improve patient care – whether it is with equipment, processes or people. Jill truly lives out “treat others as you would want to be treated”. She loves being a nurse and feels blessed to be in a profession where she can care for people experiencing their greatest joys and in contrast, their greatest sorrows. Her passion for nursing and her zest for life is an inspiration to everyone who interacts with her. Jill – You’re a DAISY Nurse!
