I entered the unit on Thursday to have a C-section early that morning. I was so nervous and concerned about the procedure that I just talked too much about my fear of pain killers after the surgery. The nurses in the unit tried to give me comfort and helped me calm my emotions but it was Joanie who was the one who stood by my side, went to the operating room with me and held my hands while the nurse anesthetist prepared me for the C-section.
Joanie was very professional and beyond that, she was like a friend. She gave me emotional support to overcome my anxiety and was very attentive to me, to my new baby and my family. She really made a difference in my experience in the hospital, she tried to make me feel at home and she did it. Having my third baby at Lakewood Ranch hospital was, without a doubt, a very pleasant experience thanks to people and professionals like Joanie.
My last day at the hospital, Joanie had her shift, she was the one who completed all my discharge papers. That day my baby was choking with mucus and milk and thanks to Joanie, she saved him. I won't ever forget her loving care through my surgery and recovery and of course, her being there to take care of my son when we needed her the most.
We will always have Joanie in our hearts, she was like a mother. We felt loved, cared for, and supported by Joanie. She is not only a very good nurse but a beautiful person, a giving spirit!
