He did not have to stay, but he chose to. I will never ever forget his incredibly kind and selfless act towards me.
My husband was a patient on the Cardiac Care Unit. He had triple bypass surgery. The initial surgery went well and John was our night nurse for the majority of our first stay. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He was so kind and caring and seemed to have a sixth sense when D needed something, whether it was pain meds, something to drink, help with going to the restroom, or needing to be adjusted in his bed to make him more comfortable. We rarely had to push the call button. We had never been through anything like this and D always had lots of questions. John patiently and in a way we could understand answered all of them and some more than once. He encouraged D with his physical therapy and helped to keep his spirits up. I was staying in the room with D and he looked after me too. After our first night, he learned I wanted coffee early in the morning and always brought it to me. When he was in our room he shared about our lives, our families, and our faith. He was such an incredible blessing.
We left the hospital believing we were on the road to recovery. D developed complications and we ended up back in the hospital days later. John was not assigned to us that night, but he came in often anyway to check on D because he was not doing well. It was so comforting to see John because I trusted him. D passed away around 8 am the next morning. I had no family with me at the time. We live about an hour and a half away from Oklahoma City and the family was desperately trying to get to the hospital. During that waiting time for family, John stayed with me so that I would not be alone. He did not have to stay, but he chose to. I will never ever forget his incredibly kind and selfless act towards me. My family arrived sometime after 10 am and it was then that he left. There are no words that could ever express my gratitude to John.
