His advocacy for his comfort and well-being was tireless, and his emotional support to us as a family was unwavering.
During tough times in life, there are individuals whose actions shine as beacons of hope. For our family, that person was John – one of the most dedicated and compassionate nurses we have ever interacted with. As we sit down together as a family to write this long overdue message to the hospital, we can’t help but to hold back tears. Our grandson had a tragic brain injury, and from that moment on, our lives transformed into a cluster of sadness, anxiety, uncertainties, and fears.

From the night John met our grandson, he was our beacon of hope, a smiling face, a shoulder to cry on, and a knowledgeable resource who gave our family the care and support beyond what we could have ever expected. Every day that John was working, he would always be participating when the doctors came around and suggesting new or different things that might help. He made sure our grandson wasn’t just seen as any other patient, but as a unique individual. His commitment to creating an environment of trust and respect gave us all a breath of relief. We knew that when John was working, we could all step away for a few minutes without worrying. John constantly went above and beyond to get to know him best, observing the tiniest details and changes that others might have overlooked.

His advocacy for his comfort and well-being was tireless, and his emotional support to us as a family was unwavering. Because we weren’t local to the area, one day, John went out of his way and brought in some of his personal clothes to give our grandson some dignity while lying in the hospital bed without clothes. This simple act really proved his profound respect for him as an individual, furthering our admiration for his compassionate approach.

John was always trying to brainstorm for us, had amazing problem-solving skills, and was always ready to address our concerns with extreme professionalism and compassion. Whether preventing potential issues or managing ongoing ones, we were never left feeling unheard or unimportant with John as the nurse taking care of him.

Throughout this ongoing battle, John's actions have promoted the nobility of nursing within the hospital and beyond. Through his care, empathy, and dedication, he has given us all a brand-new perspective of what nursing is. We believe John is most deserving of the DAISY Award. He didn't just do his job well – he touched our hearts in ways we'll never forget. From the depths of our hearts, we can't thank you enough for everything, John.
