December 2024 Honoree
John Pruitt, RN
I was treated like the president of the United States. You would not believe the care and kindness I was shown during my ICU stay. My nurse yesterday, John Pruitt, went out of his way to make sure every possible need and want I had before I pass away was met. I want to be buried at the National Cemetery and he organized a whole group of people (patient advocate, lawyer, Chaplain) to make sure that I would be buried where I want to be buried. He ensured I got to meet with a lawyer. Before he arranged one through the VA, a lawyer said it would cost me $1,000 just to talk to them yesterday. Everything was coordinated for me, and that was thanks to John Pruitt. After all of this, before I moved over to the other unit (the palliative care unit), he made sure I got a shower, shaved, and cleaned up so I was ready. People do not experience this level of kindness in their whole life; it is unlike anything I have ever experienced.
The veteran expressed this just hours before passing away.

Thank you, John, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
