A year has passed since my husband, D, passed away at UW Medical Center. D spent nearly a month at UW before he died. It was in the ICU where we met Johnny. Because of COVID, I was allowed to stay with my husband, but could not leave the room. Johnny went out of his way to make both D and me comfortable. He bought me coffee and facilitated the transfer of legal documents and personal items between us and family members who could only drive up to the front entrance of the hospital. Johnny took the time to really explain D’s treatment and procedures. He was always cheerful and upbeat while providing excellent care. He went above and beyond – even having family members check in on D when he was not on duty. Johnny made an unbearable situation tolerable and funny and pleasant at times.
