I saw a cafeteria tray sitting at the nurses station with 2 plates, each containing a huge pancake. Later, Joy came to the desk after report and picked up the tray. I asked her if she was going to eat both of those big pancakes. She explained that one was for her and one was for a patient that had been refusing to eat. She had built rapport with him thru the shift and he agreed to eat when she offered to eat breakfast with him. So she left the nurse's station and took their breakfast that she got from the cafeteria to the patient's room. Joy built a trusting relationship with this, patient and extended her caring well above and beyond her shift.
