Juanita's work allowed for several procedures to be performed under one sedation.
Being a nurse oftentimes means wearing many hats, and our October's DAISY Honoree is no exception to that. In fact, her nomination was submitted due to her incredible multi-tasking capabilities all while handling it with grace and compassion:
I felt Juanita Allmon should receive some form of added recognition for a recent case that she was heavily involved with. Juanita helped manage the pre-procedural planning for a patient that follows numerous subspecialists with Trisomy 18. Her work allowed for several procedures to be performed under one sedation.
For perspective, the patient needed the following: Pre-op COVID clearance, Pre-op medication administration coordinated through hematology for Humate, a sedated MRI, G-tube site revision and a GJ replacement from surgery, a bladder procedure, and scope performed with urology, dental work with teeth extractions with restoration, ear evaluation and wax removal with ENT and coordination with an accepting general medicine service for management post-op. I can't speak enough about how difficult this must have been for Juanita to coordinate all of these medical providers, surgeons, imaging staff members, and anesthesia to pull this off. It's like two unicorns saw a narwhal at the same time!
