This is clearly Judy's gift and I was grateful to have witnessed such a special moment with her.
OB nurses have the honor of participating in one of life's greatest moments, the birth of a child. Often this connection between parents and nurses endure the test of time. Parents recount the amazing experiences and remember their nurses' names for a lifetime. While we often associate the happiness surrounding a new life, it is equally devastating when the planned birth results in a demise. This is when the true compassion of an OB nurse comes shining through. In April, a surgical services RN witnessed Judith Barufaldi care for a fetal demise, below is her nomination:
"Judy was amazing in caring for a 29-week-old fetal demise via C-section. The parents elected not to hold the baby because they felt it would be too painful. Judy held and swaddled the beautiful baby boy with such care and compassion. I was overwhelmed with emotion. She was so delicate and deliberate in her care and was beyond respectful, in caring for his body and postmortem needs. I just wanted to commend her for her extraordinary kindness and incredible care of this sweet soul that was taken way too soon. This is clearly Judy's gift and I was grateful to have witnessed such a special moment with her."
After almost 24 years of service, thank you, Judy, for always making a difference in the lives of our patients; we applaud your dedication to our profession.
