When Judy graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Avila College in Kansas City, MO and became a member of the ICU staff at Providence in 2010, she followed in the footsteps her grandmother (also named Judy) had walked as a nurse for over 30 years at Providence. Now, in her own right, she is making her own footsteps. Judy was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient’s husband.
In his nomination he described this nurse as one who “demonstrated the mastery of her craft. She always seemed to be one step ahead of every crisis and you could tell that doctors respected her advice and listened to her recommendations. However, her technical competency was exceeded by her interpersonal skills. She was concerned and compassionate and she gained our complete confidence from the start. She cared for my wife, her patient, and me and my family and we now lovingly refer to her as ‘Saint Judy’ for her unparalleled care.”
Judy’s co-workers and physician colleagues echo these sentiments. Each of us at Providence Medical Center is proud to work with such an extraordinary nurse who not only serves our patients but also serves as co-chair of the hospital’s Nursing Task Force and advances her own and her co-workers’ knowledge and skills as a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
