Our first encounter with Julio was when my mother was admitted to this unit. From the moment Julio entered her room and introduced himself, we immediately felt cared for. He approached and treated my mother like she was his own family member. He explained every medication he was administering and helped explain and translate what the multiple physicians were saying. He provided exceptional care and made sure that we as a family felt cared for during one of our scariest times. He consistently asked us how we were feeling and how my mother was feeling each time he came into her room. Although we were there for a few days, Julio felt like family. Even after my mother was downgraded from this unit, Julio came to her room to check on her to see how she was progressing. Julio embodies all of the qualities of the DAISY Award, and it is our pleasure to nominate him.
