Kaitlyn made my mom laugh through her anxiety about the situation at hand.
My mom was admitted to the cardiac floor. Her heart was in A-Fib. She was a nervous wreck because, at 80 years old, she had only been in the hospital twice in her life. Kaitlyn was her nurse on the very first night. Nurses must have great communication skills, empathy and compassion, critical thinking, willingness to learn, and more. Kaitlyn showed every one of these characteristics and so much more. Her compassion for my mom was amazing. She made my mom laugh through her anxiety about the situation at hand. Kaitlyn was so kind and caring. She was very gentle with my mom and made her feel like she was very important.
When Kaitlyn was in her room to see how she was doing, my mom asked her a question about something, and during the conversation, Kaitlyn was paged out of the room for another patient. Before she left the room, she explained that she had to take care of something, but she would be back to chat with my mom when she was done. We both figured that would be the end of that, and we would see her later during another check to see how she was doing. Nope! Kaitlyn came back to my mom’s room to finish the conversation with her and even make her laugh some more.
My mom and Kaitlyn were able to tease each other during her stay, which was so good for my mom. Not that any of the nurses weren’t amazing (they were all really great); it’s just that Kaitlyn took extra time to make my mom feel very special. My mom was scheduled for a procedure on Friday. The night before, Kaitlyn stopped in to say goodbye to my mom before she went home. She explained that she wouldn’t see us as she had a few extra days off and wanted to wish my mom good luck and a safe trip home. She gave my mom the biggest hug before she left. I can’t explain how thankful I was that Kaitlyn was my mom’s nurse for many of the days she was there. She was just over the top with her compassion, care, communication, and so much more. The healthcare system needs more nurses like Kaitlyn. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.
