Kara Leukuma is working with us tonight and at the start of her shift (during our busiest period), she did a great job noticing changes in her patient's condition and listening to family concerns which lead to a PEAT call and stat abdominal CT.
The patient was found to have appendicitis, which incidentally had nothing to do with their admission diagnosis. This resulted in emergent surgery tonight. Before leaving, the patient's family stopped and expressed how much they appreciated Kara's care and attention to detail. They appreciated her supporting their concerns and taking excellent care of their family member.
