In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, Karen and I were both scheduled on the relief team. She was taking care of a patient that had been picked up by emergency staff outside the hospital. When this nurse went to discharge this homeless woman she made sure that the patient had the supplies necessary for her care. The patient told Karen that she did not have any shoes and did not know where to get any. I witnessed Karen take the shoes off her own feet to give to her patient so that she could walk out of the hospital. This nurse shows a level of caring and compassion that is not often seen. I would be honored if she were to care for me or my loved ones in our time of need. We truly need more people like her in this world.
