I felt like she really understood the mentorship role and was able to give me the best placement experience. Karen was able to use my skills and empower me to feel very well supported.
From meeting Karen, she was pleasant and had a plan for my placement. She took time to see what would be beneficial for my training. She took me around to meet people, explained what each department does, organised that day with dates to work with them. I felt like she really understood the mentorship role and was able to give me the best placement experience. Karen was able to use my skills and empower me to feel very well supported.
Karen has a great attitude toward teamwork and pushed me to develop and learn from her and the team she worked with. Karen gave me time and seemed to have a lot of care and understanding about my learning and development as I suffer from Dyslexia. She explained and showed me how to do complex dressings. She also supported a different way for learners and was very approachable if you were struggling with anything. She asked throughout the day, making sure I was okay and if there was anything I would like to do today for new learning experiences.
Karen has been a very supportive mentor, and her focus on making sure patients and my training was her focus while I was in the department. I believe more mentors can learn from her empowering attitude towards the development of staff, giving the learning opportunity she gave me. Through my 12 and a half years working in the trust and 3 of them training, this placement I feel has been the best experience due to the support and empowering attitude Karen showed me.
