Karin has been the director of professional practice and nursing quality for almost 3 years.
Karin has been at Suburban Hospital for over 30 years. Like many of us, she grew up here. She’s been a clinical nurse in the ICU and PACU. She advanced into the role of a nurse educator, mentoring staff development. She also served as an assistant nurse manager and was the first chair of our professional development council. Karin has been the director of professional practice and nursing quality for almost 3 years. During this time, she has taken the nursing councils, governance, and quality to a new level.
Under her leadership, the magnet document was written, submitted, and she led us through a successful site visit. Karin is not only an extraordinary leader, but she is also the administrator and champion of our DAISY Program. She works closely with our Professional Development Council to be sure our amazing nurses are honored and celebrated. Karin is also the Director of Professional Practice and Nursing Quality. In this role, she leads our magnet journey and all of our shared governance councils. Karin has her heart and hand on the pulse of our nurses always advocating and ensuring their voices are heard. The governance structure she oversees is critical to enhancing the work environment and engagement for our nursing team. We were designated Magnet in May of 2019, the only hospital in our county because of Karin’s great leadership.
Additionally, we were awarded an exemplar for RN engagement which has outperformed national benchmarks for the past 6 years. Karin is an exemplary leader whose passion and commitment to nursing have helped our organization sustain an attractive work environment for our nurses.
