We recently had a patient who was in excruciating pain, this patient happened to get here right a shift change so no screen or referrals were done and had not been seen by the doctor yet. We did not have any orders at the time, so there was no pain medication that could be given. The patient could be heard all the way down the hall because of the pain she was experiencing in her legs. Kate sat on the floor and rubbed warm lotion on the patient's legs to help relieve her pain and afterward Kate wrapped her legs in warm towels. Kate showed so much empathy and compassion, she talked with her later on through the shift and continued rubbing her legs and showed her other ways of managing the pain without medication. Kate is such a great nurse with all her patients, I am so glad we have her.
