As an Infection Preventionist and the brother of a patient at IU Health, I am honored to nominate Katie Iacocca for the prestigious DAISY Award. In my professional capacity, I have witnessed countless interactions between healthcare providers and patients. However, within the first five minutes of meeting Katie, I was immediately impressed by her exceptional qualities.
Here are the reasons why Katie deserves this recognition:
1. Vigilance in Infection Prevention: As someone deeply committed to infection prevention, I appreciate Katie's unwavering dedication to maintaining a safe and clean environment. She consistently adheres to best practices, ensuring that my brother was protected from potential infections. Her meticulous attention to hand hygiene, proper PPE usage, and bundle care sets a remarkable example for the entire team.
2. Clinical Excellence and Quality Care: Katie not only follows hospital policies, but also delivers excellent quality care. Whether it’s administering medications, assessing vital signs, or comforting my brother, she does so with precision and compassion.
3. Patient-Centered Approach: Katie clearly places patients at the heart of everything she does. She asked meaningful questions, validated our feelings, and involved all of us in care decisions. She made me and my brother feel seen, heard, and respected under her compassionate care.
