Kathy is an excellent nurse. She consistently demonstrates compassion care in the clinical setting. Kathy emphasizes the importance of patient advocacy and guides our staff to put the patients and their family members above everything else. An example of her selfless work ethic is when she stayed overnight with one of our patients so the family members could go home and prepare for the patient to return home on hospice. Kathy had the patient transferred to a private room on another floor and remained with the patient until the next morning. The family and patient appreciated her kindness. Kathy truly made a difference in this patient's life.
Another example of Kathy's compassionate care is when a family was struggling with a physician regarding end of life care. During her rounds, she discovered the patient and family's needs were not being met. Kathy spent hours calling the physicians and Dr. S to make sure we were completely meeting their needs. She was in tears throughout the day, expressing that she needed to help this patient become comfortable. Because of Kathy's persistent strive for doing what is right, the patient had proper end of life care and passed away pain free.
It is nurses like Kathy that define what nursing is all about. What a blessing to have her on our team!
