We would like to recognize an extraordinary nurse that cared for my husband after he was admitted to CVU from the Emergency Department following an esophageal perforation. Kathy was compassionate from the moment she entered my husband's room. She knew the stress that our family was going thru, with our 7-year-old daughter hospitalized at Cincinnati Children's at the same time. My husband's throat became dry and he asked for a piece of gum. Kathy without hesitation went to the gift shop and purchased him a pack of gum with her own money because she knew I had gone to go be with our daughter and left him with no cash or wallet in his room. This may seem like a small act of kindness to others, but to us it meant the world to know that Kathy went above and beyond to make a difference in his care! From her kind offers of warm blankets, a hot shower, a cup of coffee or just answering any questions or concerns we had, she more than exemplifies Mercy's Core Values of compassion, human dignity, and sacredness of life, excellence, justice, and service! Kathy will always hold a special place in our family's heart for the exceptional care she provided our entire family. Thanks!
