Kate was being pulled in so many different directions that night, but she always managed to wear a beautiful smile and go above and beyond to do her job with such compassion and humor.
While I was a patient in the ER, they brought an elderly gentleman who had fallen. He became my roommate for the night. He was very oriented and a lovely kind of man. He was incontinent of urine multiple times during the night, requiring multiple gown changes and bed baths by Kate. The ER that night was so busy, and yet she always found the time to check on E, whom she sweetly referred to as "friend," to ask if he was okay and to see if he was soiled. Which he was every single time. Not once did Kate lose patience or huff and puff or sigh with her care and cleaning of this gentleman. In fact, just the opposite- after he was washed, dried, and his bed remade, she would get him a heated blanket and cover him up, checking to make sure he was comfortable and making sure that he remembered how to use the call light should he need her again.

Kate was being pulled in so many different directions that night, but she always managed to wear a beautiful smile and go above and beyond to do her job with such compassion and humor. I am so grateful for the care she gave to me that night but am even more touched by her genuine care for her "friend" E. I am honored to nominate Kate for this DAISY Award. God Bless her. She is a credit to her profession.
