My brother was a patient in the ICU, 7th Floor East, and he was cared for by several ICU nurses during his stay. On the day of his passing, we had the honor of having Katie Luna as his nurse. Katie was not only extremely professional, but was very kind, respectful, and compassionate- not only to my brother but to our entire family who was present that day. She went above and beyond by bringing us snacks and constantly checking on us to make sure we were okay. She took the time to explain the procedure to us and answer all of our questions. Katie was present at his passing and gave us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes- even though it was an extremely busy day in the ICU. Not only did she treat my brother with the utmost respect, but she also honored my request to shave and dress him before he left the ICU for the funeral home. She will be forever remembered by me and our family for her extraordinary kindness and professionalism. I am so grateful to her for making that very sad and difficult day a little easier by having her calm and loving spirit present. For that and so many reasons more, I am nominating Katie for the DAISY Award.
