My dad, who lives in Wisconsin, was in the ICU for over two weeks suffering from COVID.  He had continuous dialysis and was intubated twice, along with three endoscopies to cauterize ulcer bleeds and numerous IVs and medication. Katie was on duty the day all four of us kids flew in from different states to be with him and our mother.

Katie took the time to explain all the machines and their purpose and each medication to each of us as we arrived.  She was very patient, answering all of our questions, and used language that we could understand.

After a couple of days of taking care of our dad, we received word from home that our mother’s best friend passed from COVID.  Needless to say, that was a bad day!  Katie took the time to sit with us while we talked and cried.  The care and respect Katie showed our dad was outstanding.  She talked to him with respect and explained the care she was giving to him even when he was sedated.  She always addressed him as a human and not something that was hooked up to a machine.  Katie was knowledgeable, professional, and caring.  For these reasons and more, Katie is a true DAISY Nurse.

Thank you, Katie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
