Because of her attention and care, the patient had a great experience and did not feel judged or condemned at all while under this nurse's care.
When they say, "You may be the only chance for someone to see or feel Jesus", they mean this nurse! She truly is a Christ-driven woman who lives the mission out at the bedside every day and with her team. She is always kind, flexible, honest, and positive.
Recently, I had the privilege of having this nurse precept me during my specialty residency. She truly embodied our mission and service standards as a Nurse, a Preceptor, a Mentor, and a Friend.
Recently, we worked with a challenging patient who was a recovering addict. As everyone knows, this type of person can often face undue judgment, strange looks, and criticism. Leading with love and by example, she sat down beside the patient and openly discussed her history. She shared her own story of a close family member who also struggled with substance abuse and how her family member and her family came out on the other side of this with love and Christ. Because of her attention and care, the patient had a great experience and did not feel judged or condemned at all while under this nurse's care. This was a great example to me of the PERSON she is as well as the NURSE she is.
As a preceptor, she truly engaged and committed to my learning. No question was dumb, and she sought learning opportunities for me. She was encouraging and not afraid to ask others if she did not know the answer to something, which made me feel comfortable doing the same.
Because of her, I feel confident in my new role, and I feel inspired to be THAT kind of nurse like her! Finally, this nurse is very active in her church, which places a special focus on those in recovery. She gives her heart, her mind, her love, and her energy each day within these walls to her patients and team, and she also gives of herself through her church's mission to those who need Christ's love the most! She is truly excellent and an embodiment of what a good Christian and a good nurse should be.
