My husband received a diagnosis of colorectal cancer last March, he was scheduled for surgery in April. The surgery was successful but he did need an ostomy bag while the connection healed. What should've been a 5 day stay in the hospital turned into two and a half weeks. Thank goodness for our amazing day nurse, Kay. She gives amazing care, not only to her patients' bodies but also to their souls. Nights were very hard for my husband and when I would call him in the morning before I came to spend time with him, he would tell me "things are good now because Kay is here." Kay did everything she could to make sure my husband had everything he needed and was a constant source of comfort to us both. When Kay realized my husband would not make it home for his birthday, she and her nursing student decorated his room, brought him cards and the Gatorade he kept hoping to be able to have once the tube was removed from his nose. It truly touched our hearts!
