Kayla was the nurse for the night shift the day my mother died. The compassion, care, and tenderness she showed to my mother and our family were outstanding. Her attention to maintaining mom's comfort and dignity were displayed by calling a priest for last rites, joining the family in prayer, and lastly, giving mom a tender kiss as she approached her passing.
Kayla proactively maintained a level of pain relief to allow mom to transition in a peaceful way. Her actions were helpful for mom and for the family. Her compassion is not something that can be taught. It is part of the young woman she is.
It is a comfort to know that Kayla will be there for other families facing the loss of their loved one, and especially, to aid in the transition of other patients to be allowed to die with compassion, love, and dignity.
