Kelsey wanted to make the patient's birthday one to remember so she sprung into action.
We had a patient on the Surgical Unit, who was going through a tough battle with Crohn's Disease. He had been here for a month due to exacerbation of his Crohn's. He endured two major surgeries, multiple drains, and struggled with pain. His birthday was approaching and Kelsey wasn't sure if he would make it home or would still be hospitalized. Kelsey took the opportunity last weekend to really get to know the patient. The patient is a physical therapy student and was supposed to start his clinical rotation. He was so looking forward to this as he is an avid Packers fan. Kelsey wanted to make the patient's birthday one to remember so she sprung into action. She emailed me and the Director of Nursing to see if we could get him something Packer-related for his birthday. This started the ball rolling.
We were able to surprise the patient with a birthday party. We had a themed cake, a signed Packers jersey, shirts, hats, and masks. There were even balloons. The Green Bay Packers got involved too. They sent an autographed football for the patient. This all happened because of Kelsey. She took the time to really get to know her patient and created an experience for him he will not soon forget. Thank you to Kelsey for giving the patient the perfect Bellin Experience. I am so proud to have you on our team!!
